After more than 9 years working with Laravelāleading a dev team and architecting solutionsāI still sometimes feel like Iām not doing enough. Not because I lack technical skillsāIām confident in my ability to solve problems, build scalable apps, and ship clean codeābut because I often feel like Iām falling behind.
The tech world moves fast, and with new tools, frameworks, and āmust-knowā trends popping up constantly, itās easy to feel like youāre not keeping up. Add two kids and limited time, and that creeping feeling of impostor syndrome starts to growāeven when, deep down, I know Iāve built a solid career.
Quite often I catch myself thinking, āMaybe Iām not good enough.ā
The truth is, I havenāt had the time to learn or try the new things I want to.
- Expand my toolkit with skills like React and Go.
- My AWS certification study? On hold.
- That side product idea Iāve been carrying for years? Still on the shelf.
- And marketing myselfābeing visible in the Laravel communityāhas always taken a backseat.
Thatās the heart of impostor syndrome: believing youāre a fraud even though youāve already proven yourself.
Balancing work, family, and life means priorities shiftāand that doesnāt make your skills any less real. Recognizing this helps me (and maybe you) realize that small stepsāone tweet, one blog post, one honest conversationācan chip away at that doubt and remind us how much weāve actually earned.
If youāve faced similar feelings or have strategies to combat impostor syndrome, Iād love to hear your thoughts.
